Holy Spirit Led Healing could just as easily be called renewing the mind, putting on Christ, or picking up your cross daily. This process is not based on any new doctrines. In fact, there is nothing unique about the concepts involved. What is unique however is how the Holy Spirit has organized basic Biblical principles into one effective procedure. The process of renewing the mind is one we are expected to initiate and participate in. God won’t do it for us.
Ephesians 4:22-24 (NLT)
22 throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. 23 Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. 24 Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.
Romans 12:2 (NLT)
2 Don’t copy the behaviour and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
The above scriptures are often misinterpreted. People sit back and wait for God to renew our old sinful ways of thinking. Both of these scriptures use the word “let” not to suggest that God will do it for us but rather that we must make a conscious decision to let the Holy Spirit of God into our hearts and minds and show us what healing we need. We have to be open and honest enough to let God deal with our deepest issues as He sees fit and not according to our own conditions and expectations. The simple fact is that God knows far better than us what needs fixing and how it should be done.
God expects us to be totally open to first acknowledge what deep rooted issues He shows us about ourselves and then to “let” Him heal and remove these issues through His gentle guidance and instruction. That’s what this process is about. It is a Holy Spirit led revealing and healing of our deepest issues. Once the root issue is healed, the resulting sinful behaviour will cease. If you don’t think you have any issues to be healed, then you are at the top of the list! If you are honest with yourself, these issues have just been brought to mind.
Despite constant prayer, our churches are filled with emotionally damaged people waiting for God to heal them based on their own expectations and conditions. All that is required for complete healing is obedience to the Holy Spirit. God must lead all aspects of this renewal process without human restrictions and limitations. If we really don’t want to explore and deal with our innermost troubles, then neither will God as He respects our freewill decisions. The Spirit led healing process gives total control to the Holy Spirit and if you are willing to allow God total control, then He will heal you completely!
Romans 8:12-13 (NLT)
12 Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. 13 For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live.
The above scripture makes it very clear that we must allow the Holy Spirit to guide our healing. We tend to hide our deepest issues due to guilt, shame, or pride. You must be willing to examine your deepest emotional wounds in order to heal them and stop the sinful behaviour that results from these wounds. Deep rooted emotional traumas can cause many sinful behaviours including anger, jealousy, hatred, unforgiveness, cursing, addictions, depression, anxiety, etc. Once the root cause of the sin is healed, the sinful behaviours will cease. Only the Holy Spirit can lead us through true healing. We cannot do it of our own power. Here are a few more scriptures that clearly state our active involvement in this renewal process.
2 Corinthians 7:1 (NLT)
7 Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God.
Matthew 16:24 (NLT)
24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me.
God can and sometimes will instantly heal us of our difficult issues through prayer and the laying of hands. Experience shows us however that many Christians have unresolved deep rooted emotional issues.
Reasons why these issues remain in us:
- If we are waiting around for God to do the work for us then we are in error of His Word. The scriptures make it very clear that we have a part in the process of renewing the mind.
- We are unwilling to admit to God, ourselves, and others that we have issues because we feel ashamed or guilty or are just to proud to admit them. Instead we choose to ignore or cover them up with excuses, lies, and other sinful behaviour. God has granted us freewill and if we choose to hang on to our issues, then God will let us keep them.
- Some issues seem too painful to revisit under any circumstances. We are often unwilling to even discuss certain issues because of the deep pain they cause in us. This process was designed by the Holy Spirit and provides a gentle way of dealing with our deepest, most painful emotional traumas.
- We are sometimes completely blind to our own issues and simply do not realize that we behave in a sinful manner due to a long forgotten emotional trauma. We may have forgotten the cause but the Holy Spirit in us is well aware of it and will bring it to remembrance if we ask Him to.
- Sometimes an issue can become so overwhelming that we don’t know how to begin dealing with it. We then become afraid of trying to deal with it and instead bury it deep within ourselves.
- God needs us to understand the root of our issues so that the resulting sinful behaviours can be corrected. This leads to true repentance. We must be willing to let the Holy Spirit into our deepest, darkest emotional wounds. If we attempt to guide our own healing by avoiding our deepest emotional wounds, then our issues will remain.
- God desires to teach us true spiritual warfare. Satan seeks to continually destroy us and he looks for weakness. These deep rooted issues are what he seeks since a deeply wounded heart is easy prey for Him. In fact, Satan takes great delight in someone who is afraid to deal with their issues because it provides him with something to work with. Holy Spirit Led Healing reveals the workings of Satan in our lives and teaches us about true spiritual warfare that takes place in our minds and hearts.
- A deep rooted issue may remain in order that others will witness your healing of it and turn to God. Once healed, your former issues can become a powerful testimony to assist others who may be suffering from similar issues.

22 An evil man is held captive by his own sins; they are ropes that catch and hold him.
Lamentations 1:14 (NLT)
14 “He wove my sins into ropes to hitch me to a yoke of captivity.
Job 36:8-9 (NLT)
8 If they are bound in chains and caught up in a web of trouble, 9 he shows them the reason. He shows them their sins of pride.
As a true Spirit filled born again believer, God has removed much of this network already. Every single emotional wound and the sin cords attached to them have been paid for in advance with the blood of Jesus. The Holy Spirit knows exactly how this web of bondage was constructed and also knows exactly how to dismantle it. It is God’s will that we are completely healed of these emotional wounds.
With the Holy Spirit ready at the waiting, all that is required is a genuine willingness to allow Him to direct us in the healing process outlined in this website. We must allow Him full and complete control in guiding us through this process.
The question arising in your minds should be about why God doesn’t simply remove the entire network? When we suffered an emotional trauma in our childhood that was never properly resolved with understanding and forgiveness, we developed coping mechanisms such as lying, anger, bitterness, unforgiveness, violence, abuse, etc. just to name a few in order to avoid dealing with the trauma. As we grow older, the original root cause is forgotten. We develop patterns of thought to justify our sinful behaviour and more and more sin cords are attached to the original trauma. We are then unable to relate our issues to the original root cause. In addition, the many sin cords create new emotional hurts and the network spreads until we are literally caught in a web of sin. The purpose of this network is to keep pulling us into sin. It is Satan’s plan for your life and is intended to destroy you.
The Holy Spirit knows exactly where each root starts and He will show us if we let Him dig deep enough. God will always forgive our sins but removing the source of the sinful behaviour requires renewing our minds which we must initiate. If we are shown where the sinful behaviour started and understand why we developed our sinful habits, we can then begin to heal the root emotional traumas. The cords of sin will then have nothing to attach to and the network will begin to collapse. God requires a freewill decision on our part to let Him fully into our hearts with no resistance. Remember the key to this process is to let the Holy Spirit lead.
Considerations
The process itself is very simple to carry out but is quite intense in what it accomplishes spiritually. Don’t be fooled by its simplicity. It directly dismantles spiritual bondages you may be suffering from as far back as childhood. You will find that once you start this healing procedure, the Holy Spirit will continue to present you with various traumas that represent the root of many sins in your life. Many of these traumas have been long forgotten and if you are unable to deal with them through the process because of a busy schedule, then write them down and deal with them when you have time. This is not a quick fix and requires time and dedication. This process represents far more than just healing and removal of sin. It is the Holy Spirit guided destruction of Satan’s plan for your life.

A clear indicator that the healing was successful is the ability to talk about a situation or a person and not get upset, angry, anxious, afraid, etc. It should become a memory and no longer an uncontrollable emotional response.
